National Crime Prevention Campaign – “Connecting the Dots to Reduce Crime” Will Connect Law Enforcement and Community with New Technology to Deter Theft.

“Kicking off a national crime prevention campaign in Boundary County, the Sheriff’s Office will introduce “DNA for Property” and a high tech database that will give our community a huge advantage over the criminals”

Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer has reached out to ProtechDNA to make free DNA kits available to Boundary County residents for marking their valuables. It is our desire that this new campaign will deter criminals, decrease theft and increase the odds we can return recovered stolen property to rightful owners.

“DNA for Property” is a special forensic adhesive that can be applied to all types of valuables. The adhesive is swabbed on an item and will permanently dry clear and invisible to the naked eye. Suspended in the adhesive are thousands of “microscopic dots” that are .05mm in size, that is smaller than the size of a grain of sand. Chemically etched into the microdot is a unique alpha-numeric PIN (personal identification number).

With a commitment from the insurance industry, law enforcement agencies around the country will have the ability to provide a free DNA for Property kit, which is a $40 retail value to all the residents and businesses in their community. The DNA for Property kits will provide each user with up to 100 applications and a free online account in the “International Asset Registry for Law Enforcement” (IARLE). Each user must register online to set up their account, their DNA property kit will be linked to that secure account, and provide storage to include a full description for each item they swab with their DNA adhesive. The database is accessible to every law enforcement agency around the country and will help increase the return rate of property that is recovered.

The theme of this national campaign “Connecting the Dots to Reduce Crime” underscores the microdot technology and its effort to connect ever community with law enforcement around the country. The kick off of this national campaign will start for Boundary County at the fair, be sure and visit the Sheriff’s Office booth to pick up a card on how to get your free DNA Property marking kit. The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office strives to provide effective community programs focused on crime prevention, and “out of the box” outreach efforts to engage the community.

ProtechDNA President Shawn Andreas stated “This program has been in the works over the last 5 years, and the launch of the program is a critical step to the overall success.

Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer said, “We are always looking for great crime prevention tools. When I found the “PROTECHDNA” program I felt I found a high-tech solution that is simple to use. One of the biggest crime issue in our community is thefts. When potential thieves know that Boundary County is protected with this technology we hope they will think twice, or realize that we have even better odds of catching them with stolen property. Over my career we have recovered thousands of items for which the owners were never determined. This system will help solve that problem. I am thankful to the insurance industry for providing the funding for this program. My goal is for everyone in Boundary County to be aware of this opportunity and to take steps to protect their valuables. We look forward to having you stop by the Sheriff’s Office booth at the Boundary County Fair and picking up the card on how to obtain your free kit.

A key partnership in the overall campaign is the insurance industry, a cooperative group comprised of all insurance brands has committed to help fund the effort in communities around the country. This funding will help provide the tools to law enforcement to identify property that has been marked with the special adhesive.
