PRESS RELEASE
COUNTY CONDUCTING ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AT THE BOUNDARY COUNTY AIRPORT
BOUNDARY COUNTY, ID, July 24, 2024 –
Boundary County has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct an Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify and evaluate proposed improvements at the Airport located in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Proposed improvements include several safety improvements involving the removal of trees, relocation of overhead power lines, shifting the runway away from U.S. Highway 2, perimeter fence improvements, and acquisition of land located within the Runway Protection Zone. The purpose of the project collectively is to improve infrastructure to serve 100% of the small aircraft fleet that currently use the Airport by meeting FAA recommendations for runway length and to increase operational safety by meeting FAA design standards.
Dave Parker, Airport Manager, emphasized the need for these airport improvements. “These improvements are a top safety priority of the Airport and will help support the long-term sustainability of the Airport and its ability to continue to safely serve the community” Parker said.
FAA and the County have prepared a Draft EA for the Proposed Improvements at the Airport. The Draft EA will be available for viewing and comment, digitally on the County’s website, http://boundarycountyid.org/ or at the following physical locations in Bonners Ferry, during normal business hours:
Boundary County Building (County Offices) (6452 Kootenai St)
Boundary County Library (6370 Kootenai St)
