Fleming Creek Fire

(Bonners Ferry) – Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) and North Bench Fire Department, together with the U.S. Forest Service and other local rural fire departments, are battling a fire that started on a hill above the north side of Fleming Creek. Several homes and a radio tower are threatened. Evacuations are underway and are being coordinated by the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.

Homes on Holmes Road, Lupine Road and Ginger Lane are currently being evacuated. Law enforcement are requesting that residents on Turner Hill Road and Rocking Tree Road be prepared to evacuate. Holmes Road off of Highway 95 is closed to anyone other than local residents. No structures have been lost at this time. A Red Cross shelter is being set up at Mountain Springs Church, 6789 Main Street, Bonners Ferry.

The fire is burning to the north and west in timber and logging slash, and is estimated to be about 100 acres and growing.

Four air tankers, two helicopters, two dozers and several engines are on scene. Several air and ground resources have been ordered and are en route. A type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered.

The fire was reported today, August 24 at approximately 12 P.M. This cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
