BOUNDARY COUNTY
Public Information
Press Release 5-30-19

During our latest phone and internet outage a group of determined individuals helped cover Boundary County traffic with traffic to and from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Amateur Radio Operators both ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) and private operators were there to handle emergency traffic.

It was accomplished by a single call put out on the local radio repeaters from Emergency Management requesting assistance for the period of time the systems were down.

Operators listened for any Emergency Traffic that was then passed on to Emergency Management on the air and texted then to the Sheriff’s Office.

For future emergencies when communications are down in the region, check across the street or down the road for your local Amateur Ham Operator. They are easily recognized by the antennas and wires in the air. Each and every one of them is there to help you in case of emergency.

As the saying goes, “When all else fails, there is Amateur Radio”.

Congratulations to the local Ham Radio Community and thank you from Emergency Management.
