On November 29, 2018 at about 5:15 pm, Deputies and Officers from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, Bonners Ferry Police Department and Kootenai Tribal Police were investigating a reported hit and run incident as well as separate crash involving the same vehicle.
The suspect, 45 year old Michael Lange of Bonners Ferry, was contacted by officers at the scene of an accident on Mission Road in Boundary County. During their contact with Lange, he was hostile and uncooperative towards law enforcement and medical personnel. In response to an armed threat by Lange, officers fired at him. Lange suffered a non life threatening injury. A loaded rifle was recovered from the vehicle by investigators. He was treated by Kootenai Medical Center and released to be booked at the Boundary County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated assault.
As is customary and appropriate following an officer involved shooting, a multi agency investigative task force headed by the Idaho State Police is investigating the shooting. The names of the individual officers involved are not being released at this time.
