Approach Permits

Before you build: Permit requirements

Pursuant to Boundary County Ordinance 2020-2, permits are required prior to the construction of any approach or access onto a Boundary County Road, be it a permanent or temporary access. Permits are also required for any utility placement, including waterlines, along, across or under a county road. Permit applications are available at the Boundary County Road and Bridge office , located at 73 Sunrise Road, Or online. See link below for application. There is no fee for this permit.

EXCERPTS FROM BOUNDARY COUNTY ORDINANCE 2020-2

General Requirements.

  • A permit shall be required for the construction of all new approaches to County Roads and for existing approaches thereto which are altered in any way.
  • Detailed Approach Standards are found in Section 3.3 of the Ordinance.

  • These details include approach width, location, sight distance, angle, grade and slope. This section also includes work rules for construction along with safety requirements.
    Figures 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 are drawings to provide clarification to the requirements.
  • Penalties:

  • Any person who violates the provisions of the Ordinance and the Road Standards Manual, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months or by a fine not exceeding $300 or both. The county may also initiate a civil proceeding instead of, or in addition to, the criminal penalty. See Section 3.5 for full penalty information.
